PRECEPTOR PROGRAM OVERVIEWStructured onboarding designed specifically for new graduate RNsOne-on-one mentorship with experienced nursing staffGradual increase in patient care responsibilities as competencies developOngoing feedback, evaluation, and professional development supportProgram length and clinical rotations may vary depending on individual progress and departmental needsRESPONSIBILITIESDeliver comprehensive nursing care using the nursing process and evidence-based practicesDevelop and revise patient care plans based on ongoing assessment and patient/family inputPerform admission assessments, skin assessments, and documentation of patient conditionsAdminister medications, IVs, and perform procedures such as wound care, catheterization, and post-operative supportRespond appropriately to patient status changes and coordinate care with physicians and support staffCollaborate with and learn from preceptors, charge nurses, and interdisciplinary team membersProgressively assume independent patient assignments as part of the preceptor programSupport safety initiatives, infection control protocols, and hospital quality improvement activitiesKNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCEGraduate of an accredited nursing programActive Registered Nurse license with the State of Alaska (or ability to obtain prior to start)Current BLS certification required; ACLS preferred or obtained within a specified timeframePALS required within 6 months (specialty certifications required for OB/ICU roles)Strong communication, documentation, and critical thinking skillsWillingness to learn and adapt in a fast-paced clinical environmentAbility to manage changing patient conditions with support from preceptors and team membersFamiliarity with electronic health records (EHR) preferredPhysical Requirements: Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds and perform moderate physical activity, including walking, standing, and sittingENVIRONMENTThe South Peninsula Hospital is a combined 22-bed Acute Care Critical Access Hospital and 28-bed Long Term Care facility located at the southern end of the Kenai Peninsula in South-Central Alaska.
