The Division of Measurement Standards & Commercial Vehicle Enforcement (MSCVE) is looking for a motivated, energetic, professional, and detail-oriented individual to fill our Weights & Measures Inspector Trainee vacancy in Anchorage to help us Keep Alaska Moving! This position is responsible for performing a variety of inspection, testing, investigative, and law enforcement duties under Alaska Statute (AS) 45.75, Weights & Measures Act, for the purpose of regulating for the protection of Alaskan consumers the accuracy of all types of measuring devices used in commercial trade transitions, and all types of commodities sold in the state by units of weight, volume, and other measures. This position requires frequent travel year round, short notice travel from April 1 through October 31, and may be subject to leave use restrictions. Key Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following: Performing inspections, identifying performance requirements, and taking enforcement action; Performing follow-up inspections for devices that do not meet accuracy standards; Performing field testing and inspections for various types of devices and commodities; Writing field reports, notices of violations, and stop use and removal orders; and Taking oral, field performance, and written exams in different areas of weights and measures inspection; Desired Skills, Strengths, and Qualifications: (Please note that the following bullet points will need to be highlighted in your cover letter, giving specific examples to each.) Perform moderate physical labor (e.g., lift and carry 50-pound test weights, 5-gallon gas can). Experience in traveling to other communities and remote locations within Alaska; Skill in reading and comprehending statutes, regulations, policies, and procedures,ing them to specific situations, and explaining procedures and requirements to the public and others; Skill in reasoning logically, analyzing situations accurately,ing sound judgment, and making sound decisions in a variety of situations; Experience in the technical documentation of field reports, notice of violations, timesheets, and travel documents; Ability to work successfully independently or as part of a team; Excellent written and verbal interpersonal and communication skills; Ability to maintain a high level of professionalism as an inspector for the Department; Ability to make accurate mathematical calculations; and Ability to obtain a valid Commercial Driver's License (Type A or B) within six months of hire MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: High School Diploma or the equivalent AND One year of experience in one or more of the following: 1) installation, maintenance, or repair of weighing and measuring devices; 2) installation, maintenance, or repair of liquid measuring devices; 3) employment using commercial weighing or measuring devices. Special Note:Special Requirement: As a condition of continued employment incumbents must obtain a Type A or B commercial driver's license within six months of hire. Employees holding a commercial drivers license will be subject to mandatory drug and alcohol testing. Note: Requires moderate physical labor which includes lifting and carrying weights up to 50 pounds. If utilizing this education you must show that the education credentials have been submitted to a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign educational credentials and that such education has been deemed to be at least equivalent to that gained in conventional U.S. education programs; or an accredited U.S. state university reports the other institution as one whose transcript is given full value, or full value is given in subject areas applicable to the curricula at the state university.
