Duties

* Provides a full range of standard and non-standard assignments resolving a variety of non-recurring problems.
* Keeps apprised of rules and procedures for the preparation and processing of correspondence, reports, and forms; hard-copy and electronic filing; mail procedures; preparation of travel vouchers; and, security procedures.
* Provides routine information and answers many types of inquiries on all research and/or forest activities such as the whereabouts of key personnel and directions to facilities.
* Uses word processing software and printing equipment to create, copy, edit, store, retrieve, and print a variety of standardized documents using a glossary of prerecorded formats, form letters, standard paragraphs, and mailing lists.
* Uses database or spreadsheet software to enter, revise, sort, or calculate, and retrieve data for standard reports.
* Serves as Collection Officer to sell such items as National Forest maps, Christmas tree permits, 2400-4?s (Forest Product Sale Permits), and Golden Age Passports in accordance with manual and handbook requirements.
* Is held accountable for the funds collected.
* Maintains accountability records as required.
* Performs other duties as assigned.

Eligibility Requirements: You must have lived and or worked in or near the geographic boundaries of Southcentral or Southeast Alaska and have special knowledge or expertise concerning the natural and cultural resources in at least one of these areas to participate in administrative and visitor services activities.

Additional information

The salary amount will be adjusted to include a Cost of Living Allowance (COLA). A gradually reducing COLA will continue to be paid after December 31, 2012. Positions may be filled at one or more of the duty locations included in this announcement.

Positions filled will be permanent with a full-time, part-time or seasonal work schedule. Seasonal work schedules typically consist of 13 pay periods in pay status and 13 in nonpay status OR 18 pay periods in pay status and 8 pay periods in nonpay status. Final tour of duty will be determined at time of job offer.

THIS IS AN OPEN CONTINUOUS ANNOUNCEMENT. This type of announcement provides the Forest Service with a readily available source of applicants when vacancies occur. These are bargaining unit positions and are represented by NFFE.

Federal affiliated daycare facilities may be available at the Federal building in Juneau, Alaska depending on openings and at cost to the employee.

If you are selected for a position with further promotion potential, you will be placed under a career development plan, and may be non-competitively promoted if you successfully complete the requirements and if recommended by management. However, promotion is not guaranteed.

If you are newly hired, the documentation you present for purposes of completing the Department Homeland Security (DHS) Form I-9 on your entry-on-duty date will be verified through the DHS "E-VERIFY" system. Federal law requires the use of E-VERIFY to confirm the employment eligibility of all new hires. ANILCA appointments require a 2 year probationary period. Upon completion of 2 years the incumbent will be non-competitively converted to a career or career-conditional appointment if all of the following are met: successful completion of 2 year probationary period, Office of Personnel Management (OPM) qualification requirements are met for the position the incumbent is converting into, satisfactorily meeting performance requirements, and completion of all prescribed training. If all requirements are not met upon completion of two years in this position, employment will be terminated.
