Providence is calling a Associate Chaplain (Acute Administration, Day Shift, 0.5 FTE - 20 hours per week) to Providence Seward Medical Center in Seward, Alaska. In this position, you will: * MINISTRY WITH PATIENTS AND THEIR FAMILIES: * Has professional, inter-personal contact with patients and their families. * Assess and address emotional, spiritual, social and psychological needs of patients as part of the multidisciplinary care team. * Offer and facilitate appropriate spiritual care and sacramental ministry respectful of patient's spirituality and faith tradition. * Provide special attention and supportive care to terminal and dying patients and their families. * Maintain confidentiality of patient information shared and/or heard. * Maintain relationships on professional basis and demonstrates clear boundaries. * MINISTRY WITH STAFF: * Has professional, inter-personal contact with staff as part of the multidisciplinary care team. * Assess emotional and spiritual needs of staff as related to their professional work in the healthcare setting and/or related to their personal lives impacting their work/life balance. * Offer and facilitate appropriate spiritual care and sacramental ministry respectful of staff's spirituality and faith tradition. * Provide special attention and supportive care to situations involving the dying process and/or death of a patient. * May lead or co-facilitate Critical Incident Stress Defusings and Debriefings, with permission of manager and appropriate training. * Demonstrate supportive care and neutrality in situations involving workplace conflict. * Make referrals to EAP, HR and/or other professionals as appropriate. * Maintain confidentiality of staff information shared and/or heard. * Maintain relationships on professional basis and demonstrates clear boundaries. * COMMUNICATION & EDUCATION: * Document assessments, interventions and care plan in patient's chart in a timely manner. * Listen to staff and/or physician to identify needs for emotional and/or spiritual support by attending rounds, shift coordinator report, and staff meetings. * May attend and participate actively in care conferences. * Make appropriate referrals to other member of the multidisciplinary care team. * Communicate healthcare information and special concerns verbally to physicians and staff as needed. * Provide clear, professional hand-off communication to staff chaplains. * Bridge and build communications link between patients, families, physicians and staff. * Provide information and support with Advance Directives (Living Wills and Medical/Durable Powers of Attorney). * Communicate with and collaborates with PAMC spiritual care team, community clergy and/or other spiritual leaders as appropriate. * Articulate role of chaplains and scope of spiritual care within PAMC and community. * Educate and leads all PAMC staff in assessing and addressing the 'emotional and spiritual needs' of patients and their families. * Complete initial and annual Competency Plan for assigned job and department. Required qualifications for this position include: * Bachelor's Degree in pastoral ministry, theology or related field. One unit of ACPE-accredited Clinical Pastoral education or any equivalent Combination of Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education, and Experience, as approved by Spiritual Care Manager or Director. * A letter from the applicant's religious authority indicating good standing with their faith tradition or denomination (except when in conflict with PHSA employment policies). Preferred qualifications for this position include: * Master's Degree (M.Div. and/or M.A.) from an accredited college, seminary, university or theological institute in divinity, theology, spirituality, ministry, or closely related field. Two to four units of ACPE-accredited Clinical Pastoral Education or Any equivalent Combination of Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education, and Experience, as approved by Spiritual Care Manager or Director. * Two (2) years clinical and/or pastoral experience in healthcare setting or other ministry.
