Lead less experienced engineers and technicians and assist with project scoping, staff e workload projections and project cost estimates. Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following: Through limited guidance from department managers and project managers and participation in project meetings, perform and coordinate engineering design of base maps, civil engineering site and utility plans, transportation design, planning, geotechnical and environmental report figures. For large projects, coordinate engineering and drafting and resolve design conflicts which may occur with multiple design tasks associated with the project. Perform, or assist engineers with, computations for plan and profile sheets, site and utility grades, and project quantities. Perform, or assist engineers with development of construction specifications and estimates. Coordinate development of display graphics and report figures with junior staff. Assist with regular filing of large format drawings, both physical and electronic. Assist the other departments with completion of drawings including base maps, record surveys, ALTA surveys, plats, plot plans and maps which may include contours and digital terrain models.This may include some fieldwork. May include supervisory responsibilities over other engineering technicians (I through III). Other duties may be assigned. Supervisory Responsibilities Supervises a team of Engineering Technicians (from intern to level III) in the Civil Engineering Department. Responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of this unit. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems. Qualifications. To be successful in this position, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Education and/or Experience Fifteen or more years of drafting and design experience in the civil engineering field. Certificates, Licenses, Registrations Must have a valid driver's license and a good driving record. Mathematical Skills Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical analysis, and fundamentals of geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, proportions and angular relationships to practical situations. Job Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Proficiency with and understanding of the civil engineering design process sufficient to perform and document civil design with little guidance. Ability to identify and resolve civil design conflicts. Sufficient English skills to compose correspondence, develop project contract specifications, proofread documents, and effectively communicate with supervisors, engineers, other technicians, and clients. Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with abstract and concrete variables. Proficient knowledge of AutoCad Civl 3D , Microstation, Geopak, AutoDesk Land Desktop, ArcMap GIS, Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel software, Windows Operating System, and several printing output devices. Ability to produce accurate complex final drawings with AutoCAD and related software. Ability to lead less experienced engineers and technicians and assist with determining appropriate staff workload and project cost estimates. Physical Demands.
