Job Description
Who we are:
The Department of Environmental Conservation, Division of Environmental Health, Environmental Health Laboratory (EHL) is recruiting for a Maintenance Generalist Journey position in Anchorage.
This level performs work involving a full range of assignments normally associated with building maintenance utilizing skills gained through formal training or equivalent work experience and allow for growth opportunities. This position will perform other duties as described or required by the Maintenance Specialist or management.

Our mission to Alaska:
The EHL is considered a critical infrastructure, and the Building, Maintenance and Operations (BM&O) section provides support for operation and maintenance of the EHL building. Core services include building maintenance and repair, mechanical systems maintenance and repair, and grounds maintenance. A Maintenance Specialist and a Maintenance Generalist maintain the facility of approximately 23,000 square feet. The building was built in 2005. Additional support is provided by management, administration, and information technology staff at the EHL. This incumbent is responsible for maintaining a safe and secure laboratory facility including building systems, safety equipment, and provide support to established security and safety systems.

Your work environment:
Although this is a maintenance position, it requires a significant amount of computer related work. Work orders are managed by a computerized maintenance management system (CMMS), and the building systems are operated through a computerized building automation system. Interpersonal communications are made using Microsoft Outlook for email and calendars and Microsoft Team for meetings and chat. Microsoft Excel is used for basic procurement documentation. Although frequent movement around the building is required, computer skills are also used on a daily basis.

Desired competencies: The ability to prioritize work tasks and adjust based on changing needs. The ability to understand and follow policies and procedures from the State, the Department, and the EHL. The knowledge and ability to properly use personal protective equipment, apply general safety protocols, and safely work in mechanical areas containing various equipment and all other areas of the laboratory. The ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, supervisors, and vendors. The ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
Special Notice:
A valid drivers license is required for this position.
Minimum Qualifications
Vacancies in this job class are filled through Union referral, except for promotions, demotions, transfers, and emergency appointments.
