Position Summary: The Alaska Native Studies Program is seeking
applicants for their adjunct labor pool.--Alaska Native Studies in
an Interdisciplinary Program that seeks to provide students with an
introduction to Alaska Native Cultures, Languages, ways of knowing
and critical perspectives on traditional and contemporary Alaska
Native politics and issues.
Duties: The Alaska Native Studies Program is seeking applicants for
their adjunct labor pool. Alaska Native Studies in an
Interdisciplinary Program that seeks to provide students with an
introduction to Alaska Native Cultures, Languages, ways of knowing
and critical perspectives on traditional and contemporary Alaska
Native politics and issues. The program currently offers a minor in
Alaska Native Studies and hopes to expand its offering.--Acceptance
into the hiring pool does not constitute a hiring agreement, nor
does having worked one semester guarantee that a position will be
available the following semester; hiring decisions are made on a
semester-by-semester basis, according to the needs of that
semester's schedule.Duties/ResponsibilitiesThe incumbent will be
responsible for teaching one or more undergraduate courses in a
manner consistent with the specific course content description.
Adjunct faculty are expected to hold office hours appropriate for
the course(s) being taught.Knowledge/Skills/AbilitiesExpertise and
Experience relevant to the effective teaching of the Alaska Native
Studies courses is required.Candidates will be evaluated on past
teaching experience, potential for providing high quality
instruction in either traditional knowledge or an academic focus in
Indigenous or Alaska Native Studies, to Undergraduate
Students.Required ExperienceExperience teaching at the college
level, or extensive teaching experience in a traditional knowledge
setting such as a cultural center.Typical Education or
TrainingRelevant Master's degree. Exceptions may be made when
prospective faculty have equivalent traditional knowledge and
experience of Alaska Natives issues and cultures - historical and
contemporary, or Alaska Native Arts. Such exceptions can only be
approved by the Director of Alaska Native Studies and the CAS Dean
or Associate Dean for Humanities.Preferred: Doctorate degree in
related field is preferred for upper division (300-400 level
courses). Any exceptions must be approved by the Director of Alaska
Native Studies in conjunction with the CAS Dean or the Associate
Dean of Humanities.Successful applicants must provide official
