What's the role?
The Geology Superintendent reports to the Geology Manager, and
the primary role is to coordinate and supervise the teams that (i)
delineate and classify in-mine mineral resources and (ii) perform
the underground geological activities required to facilitate the
safe, efficient and cost-effective extraction and growth of the
mineral reserve within the Pogo Gold Mine area to meet or exceed
Northern Star's performance requirements within the Pogo Geology
The Superintendent Mine Geology together with his Mine Project
Geologists are responsible for delivering the Reserve & Resource
Growth as per guidance from Corporate from their area of
responsibility Provide instructions for underground development
heading at each cut, based on a thorough investigation of, and
understanding of, the information available including the geology
exposed in the excavation as well as any other relevant information
(relevant drill hole intersections, geological mapping of nearby

most efficient access to and exposure of the ore bodies for

The incumbent is expected to contribute to and actively promote
geological discussion regarding in mine and near mine exploration
The position is accountable for the activities and performance
of the underground geology team and the resource geology team,
including the responsibility for the effective management of the
underground diamond drilling activities. It is the responsibility
of the incumbent to ensure that all these activities are performed
to the necessary safety and quality standards and to ensure that
they are scheduled and completed in a timely fashion.
The Superintendent Mine Geology is expected to provide
guidance/mentoring and assistance to the geological personnel on
site (and particularly to those in their own area of
responsibility) where this is required.
Development and enforcement of safe work practices.
Supervise the maintenance of a training matrix in each area of
responsibility and hold the Senior Geologists accountable for
implementing the training of their staff.
Regularly monitor the training requirements of your direct
reports and discuss and implement training plans for them following
IDP reviews or at other times as required.
Assist and hold the Senior Mine Geologists accountable for
ensuring that the quality of the products produced is sufficient to
meet or exceed Northern Star corporate and site standards through
at least the following activities.
Initial training and competency assessment for tasks.
Task observations where applicable.
Assist and hold the Senior Mine Geologists accountable for
performing the end-of-month production reconciliations and for
taking appropriate actions to address issues and corrective actions
assigned in the monthly reconciliation meetings.
The Superintendent Mine Geology (with the assistance of the Mine
Project Geologists) are responsible for designing and maintaining a
scheduled system that ensure a detailed review of all Pogo in-mine
areas for economic in-mine material in and around old workings, as
well as strike and dip lode extensions to current- or untested-mine
areas. (This include data reviews/analysis, target generation,
drilling, modelling, concept designs/solutions for mining with
basic financial analysis and ensuring incorporation into LOM
schedule through interactions with Long Term Planning
Manage the onsite relationships between Northern Star and
Geology contractor personnel and immediately address any matters
concerning inappropriate or obstructionist behaviour if it is
observed or reported.
The Superintendent Mine Geology is expected to make use of
appropriate Northern Star or external experts, where appropriate,
to complete studies or address issues related to contracts/training
that involve expertise not present on site e.g. structural study
(external), seismic surveys, software training etc.
The Superintendent Mine Geology is responsible for/or assist
with- various Geology reporting functions and meetings: This
includes Daily/Weekly/Monthly/Quarterly and Annual reports
What are we looking for?
You'll be a highly motivated individual who will display
