The Child Care Program Office has an exciting opportunity for the right candidate. Our Child Care Licensing Team is seeking an individual who enjoys a variety of assignments, can work independently, has a desire to learn, and who can provide outstanding customer service in continuing to meet the above mission and vision statements in their service to the children, families, and child care providers in Alaska. The Department of Health & Social Services values more than just technical ability in our team members. This Project Assistant position will have a specific focus on supporting the Child Care Licensing Team. Our team has two regions, Central North and Central South. This position will be directly supervised by the Licensing Program Manager in Anchorage, and be assigned projects and duties related to the administration of the Child Care Licensing Program. There may be occasions where this position will work on projects outside of the licensing team to support the overall needs of the CCPO. Key responsibilities include: Monitor and respond to Child Care Licensing Policy mailbox; Maintain Child Care Licensing Program Policy and Procedures Manual; Review and approve Health and Safety training submissions; Review proposed changes in regulations and policies to determine potential impacts to Child Care Licensing and other CCPO programs, staff and grantees; Participate and facilitate meetings to organize, develop, and maintain special projects and initiatives; Develop and maintain tools such as reports, logs, forms, spreadsheets, etc., to enhance operations and statewide licensing consistency; and Assist with special projects identified. We are looking for a team member with the following demonstrated knowledge, skills, abilities, and experience: Work experience demonstrating the ability to read, understand, interpret, and explain complex statutes, regulations and policy and procedures; Working knowledge of research techniques and the methods of compiling, analyzing, organizing, and reporting data; Full-time professional work experience within the field of early childhood care and education; Experience in dealing with stressful situations and managing interactions with angry or upset individuals in a professional manner; Enthusiasm and passion for your work with exceptional attention to detail; Ability to work as an individual and as a team member with critical thinking and effective decision making skills; Experience in dealing with the various cultural and ethnicities through-out the State of Alaska; Excellent organizational skills with the proven ability to multi-task, manage time and adhere to established time lines with frequent interruptions and changes in priorities; Excellent oral communication skills, including experience in speaking in front of small or large groups of people; Excellent written communication skills, including generating and issuing comprehensive Project Reports; and Advanced level of computer skills: including experience creating and using Microsoft Applications, such as Word, Outlook and Excel for spreadsheets, graphs, pivot tables, and entering and retrieving data using a computerized records system. AND EITHER One year of technical experience where the primary purpose of the job is to perform research and/or data interpretation and and disseminate technical, statutory and regulatory requirements for agency use or to the public. OR One year of technical experience in community development, research, social services, economics, public administration, planning, or a closely related field. OR SUBSTITUTION: Five years in any combination of post-secondary education and technical experience where the primary purpose of the job is to perform research and/or data analysis, interpret, explain, and statutory and regulatory requirements, and disseminate technical information for agency use or to the public. (3 semester or 4 quarter hours of post-secondary education are equal to one month of experience).
