Job DescriptionCLARE SWAN EARLY LEARNING CENTERJOB DESCRIPTION Job Title: Kitchen AssistantDepartment: Clare Swan Early Learning Center (CSELC)Reports To: Kitchen SupervisorSupervises: NoneFLSA Status: Non-ExemptPay Code: N3Job Type: Full-Time, RegularAKBCU: Yes ICPA: Yes General Functions:The Kitchen Assistant provides support and assistance to the Kitchen Supervisor to ensure food service is delivered and the kitchen is maintained to the highest quality standards. Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist with meal prep which includes, washing fruits/vegetables, peeling, chopping, cooking, and baking.
  • Deliver food to classrooms and designated areas.
  • Comply with all Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) requirements and food service related Municipality of Anchorage Health & Safety regulations.
  • Maintain clean, sanitary, safe, and well-organized kitchen and food storage environment.
  • Sweep, mop, wash, and sanitize floors, surfaces, cooking and eating utensils and dishware.
  • Responsible for following the First In/First Out food safety program.
  • Assist administrative staff in gathering data for relevant reports and claims.
  • Responsible for establishing and maintain positive relationships with classrooms including being present and available in order to enhance students' understanding and connection with the food service program.
  • Maintain confidentiality according to regulations and procedures.
  • Other duties as needed and assigned. Job Specifications:
    • Demonstrated ability to use kitchen equipment and appliances.
    • Strong understanding of standard kitchen measurements.
    • Ability to develop rapport with parents, children, and co-workers.
    • Demonstrated ability to prioritize and coordinate multiple activities simultaneously.
    • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
    • Strong written and oral communication skills.
    • Ability to follow an established work schedule.
    • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.Minimum Core Competencies: CITC Values, Respectful Leadership, Professionalism, Emotional Intelligence, Problem Solving/Critical Thinking, Communication Skills Minimum Qualifications:
      • High School Diploma or GED.
      • Municipality of Anchorage Food Worker Card or obtain within one (1) month of hire.
      • Must provide copy of current Health report.
      • Continued employment is contingent upon receipt of satisfactory report from a state and federal background check.
      • Fully vaccinated against COVID-19 or an approved accommodation. Preferred Qualifications:
        • Two (2) years' experience working a commercial, school, head-start, or similar kitchen environment.
        • Current or former Head Start parents are encouraged to apply..Physical Requirements:
          • Lift up to 50 pounds intermittently.
          • Have mobility required to shop, receive deliveries, store, and rotate food and related items.
          • Stamina to stand for up to eight hours per day.
          • Ability to work outdoors in variety of weather.
          • Fully capable to have visual or hearing capabilities consistent with Child Care Licensing safety requirements.
          • Perform regular cleaning.
