This position is represented by the Anchorage Municipal Employee Association (AMEA) and is subject to the provisions of the current agreement between the Municipality of Anchorage and the AMEA. DEPARTMENT: Anchorage Health Department (AHD) HOURS OF WORK: Monday through Friday; 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. LOCATION: 825 L Street These are Temporary positions not to exceed six (6) months from date of hire. Example of Duties: Conduct clinic services consisting of immunizations and communicable disease investigation, testing, and treatment. Coordinate with staff and other agencies to expand immunization efforts in the community. Perform outreach activities to individuals and families encouraging them to have their children or selves immunized. Assess psychosocial and medical needs, diagnose and treat sexually transmitted infections, and provide referral where appropriate. Provide epidemiological follow-up of communicable diseases, including community based investigation for state reported cases of infectious disease to deter major epidemiological outbreaks. Provide community education on health topics. Perform other related duties as assigned. The Anchorage Health Department (AHD) engages in the State of Alaska Department of Health and Social Services (DHSS) emergency responses and the federal Incident Command System (ICS). This includes training exercises as part of the AHD's Crisis Health Action Team (CHAT) and municipal Emergency Operations Center (EOC). In the case of a natural or manmade disaster AHD's employees may be called to engage in emergency operations responses and recovery. Minimum Qualifications / Substitutions / Preferences: Bachelor's degree in Nursing, a Registered Nurse License and experience in public or private health care. Must possess the following licenses and certificates: - Valid State of Alaska driver's license by the time of hire. - Current State of Alaska Registered Nurse License by time of hire OR if an applicant is not currently licensed in Alaska, a temporary Alaska Nursing License must be obtained by the time of hire. (Regular license must be obtained within 180 days of hire.) - Current American Red Cross / American Heart Association Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Certification or the equivalent within 90 days of hire. - DHHS HIPPA certification within 30 days of hire. - Satisfactory background clearance to access the Highland Mountain Correctional Center within 30 days of hire. Preferences: - Experience with developing and implementing policies, procedures and protocols. - Experience with researching evidence-based practice. - Experience with developing and maintaining training and competency records. - Strong presentation, technical writing and public speaking skills. - Experience with medical and/or public health emergency preparedness. Additional Important Information: Preference will be given to Anchorage Municipal Employees Association (AMEA) employees. AMEA employees who are successful in the screening process will be forwarded to the department for consideration prior to any non-AMEA applicants. If selected for hire, appointment in this position will be conditional based upon the submission of a current copy of the applicant's Alaska driver's license and a current (dated within 30 days from date requested) copy of his/her Department of Motor Vehicle driving record, including a driving record from previous states if the Alaskan driver's license was first issued within one year prior to application, documenting an acceptable driving history. The processing fee(s) are the responsibility of the selected applicant. For information on acceptable driving history, please refer to the MOA Driving Conviction Guidelines. All required certifications and licenses must remain current for the duration of employment. If selected for hire, appointment in this position will be conditional based upon satisfactory completion of a national criminal background investigation (AS 12.62.160) and (AS 12.62.400). Accordingly it will be necessary for the selected applicant to provide certain identification information and be fingerprinted. Fingerprint cards must be dated within 30 days from date requested. The processing fee of $48.25 plus the cost of being fingerprinted (variable) is the responsibility of the selected applicant and must be accomplished before beginning work. If selected for hire, the appointment in this position will be conditional based upon a satisfactory Municipal Employment Office conducted background check. A background check encompasses criminal history, verifying education, and verifying dates of employment. In addition to the MOA background check the successful applicant will need to complete a satisfactory background clearance to access the Highland mountain Correctional Center within 30 days of hire. VETERANS: Veterans who wish to be considered for interview preference as allowed in the Personnel Rules 3.30.031 D must attach a copy of their DD Form 214 to the application. The DD Form 214 must show an honorable discharge. The minimum qualifications of the position must be met for preference consideration.
