Job Title: Registered Nurse - Wound Care Profession: RN Specialty: Wound Care Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Day shift Hours per Shift: 10 hours Experience: Minimum of one year in an acute hospital setting License: Active RN license in Alaska Certifications: BLS, Certification in Wound/Ostomy Nursing, Certification in Sharp Debridement Must-Have: Foot and nail care experience, Experience with EPIC charting Description: The job requires knowledge and a competency in performing nursing care procedures, assessments, treatments, and techniques utilized in a clinic setting. Renders professional nursing services in support of medical care directed by the provider. Works closely with or may lead other professional and ancillary personnel in providing total nursing care to patients. ESSENTIAL JOB COMPETENCIES: Assessment: Provides an accurate, holistic assessment on assigned patients to determine appropriate health care needs. Establishes patient care priorities based on the needs of patients of all ages. Planning: Utilizes assessment data to develop and maintain a holistic, ongoing nursing plan of care. Implementation: Administers therapeutic measures, consistent with professional standards in a safe, timely, and effective manner. Carries out appropriate nursing interventions. Evaluation: Interprets patient and diagnostic data on an ongoing basis to determine appropriate nursing actions. Professionalism: Establishes a work environment that facilitates the accomplishment of patient care goals in an organized manner. All job functions and communications are carried out in a cooperative manner, encouraging a team spirit. Wound Care Specific Competencies: Patient education Pressure ulcer prevention protocol V.A.C. Dressing Conservative sharp wound debridement Unna boot Silver nitrate application Callous paring Toenail debridement Doppler for pedal pulse ABI Ankle/Brachial Index Equipment utilized in the unit includes Meditech. It would be helpful if candidates are familiar with EPIC. Required skills include a minimum of one year experience in an acute hospital setting and foot and nail care experience. Specific licensures and certifications required are an active RN license in Alaska and BLS. Certification in wound care and sharp debridement is preferred. The RN will work independently, although there are other RNs present. The nurse to patient ratio in this setting may vary. Patients are seen from morning to late afternoon in this clinic setting. Dress code is scrubs. Initial competency assessment will be completed by the supervisor, which includes orientation to the department.
