Job Description:
Providence is calling a Phlebotomist II ( Lab Outreach Admin,
Variable Shift, 1 FTE - 40 hours per week) to Providence Alaska
Medical Center in Anchorage, Alaska. We are a community of

In this position you will:
- SPECIMEN COLLECTION AND HANDLING: Perform bedside testing
according to medical center, laboratory and national standards.
Collects and labels capillary or venipuncture specimens according
to established procedure. Explains collection procedure clearly to
patient and properly identifies patient prior to collection.
Handles requests for special services, i.e. Codes, STAT and Timed
draws, prudently and efficiently. Receives specimens and transports
to correct testing area or processing.
- DOCUMENTATION AND DATA ENTRY: Obtain complete documentation for
the registration process including signatures and related billing
information. Understands and adheres to all compliance related
procedures. Accurately accessions physician test requests into LIS
as needed.
- CLIENT RELATIONS: Maintain a clean, professional personal
appearance. At all times conducts himself/herself in a professional
manner as a representative of PAMC. Must possess the ability to
deal tactfully with personnel, clients, and the general public.
Cooperates closely with Client Services, other laboratory personnel
as well as other departments within PAMC. Receives incoming
laboratory calls as the backup to Client Services. Assists callers
with testing order status, specimen requirements, and other
information as able. Directs calls or pages calls to appropriate
staff members or pathologists.
- COMMUNICATION AND TEAM WORK: Use clear and concise verbal and
written communication with staff and the public. Builds effective,
supportive relationships with co-workers and laboratory customers.
Uses positive interpersonal skills to promote success of team
members and promote lab goals. Assists other personnel as needed
without being asked. Completes pay records and personnel forms
accurately and correctly. Willing to work alternate shifts and
areas as needed by the department.
- QUALITY CONTROL / QUALITY IMPROVEMENT: Perform quality control,
quality improvement, specimen tracking, and maintenance procedures
as required for shift responsibilities. Contributes accurate
statistics or information to the Lab Services QI processes as
requested. Notifies Lead CLA or Supervisor of unacceptable
specimens immediately. Volunteers for additional responsibility to
assist supervisor.
- SAFETY AND EDUCATION: Comply with all Laboratory and PHSA
safety policies and procedures. Adheres to hospital biohazard waste
program. Maintains clean, well stocked working area and phlebotomy
tray. Operates hospital vehicle safely at all times. Maintains a
clean DMV record at all times.
- PROBLEM SOLVING / CRITICAL THINKING: Use good judgment and
common sense in making decisions. Accepts responsibility for
decisions and learns from incorrect judgments. Demonstrates
creativity to solve problems within scope of responsibility. Refer
situations deviating from standard protocol to Lead CLA or
supervisor.
- MENTOR: Serve as mentor for new employees during their
orientation period.
- Complete initial and annual Competency Plan for assigned job
and department.
Required qualifications for this position include:
- H.S. Diploma or GED
- Phlebotomy certification from NCA, ASCP, NCCT, or other
comparable certification
- Valid driver's license may be required
Preferred qualifications for this position include:
- Phlebotomy experience
