Career Services seeks an organized and driven professional to provide career services expertise, manage and expand employer relations, and increase access to career and workforce development opportunities for UAA students and alumni. This position will provide leadership in cultivating relationships with employers and alumni, connecting them with opportunities to network with, recruit, and hire UAA talent, and preparing and supporting students and alumni to find career success before and after graduation.
    Duties: Administration, Assessment & Data: Work with the Director to analyze and assess Career Services events, services, and programming. Identify and utilize best practices to evaluate effectiveness of initiatives and signature programs including equity and barrier analysis and assessments to identify opportunities to implement DEI principles.Assist in maintaining Handshake, including collaboration on review and approval of employment opportunities, employer accounts, and other events and experiences facilitated by Handshake.Maintain updated records on recruitment trends, application and hiring data, increased employer partnership, etc. Generate comprehensive reports as requested.Establish and oversee Career Services policies, procedures, and expectations for employers recruiting and engaging with students on Handshake and on campus. Manage the review of recruiting policies for both students and employers, monitor state and federal employment laws,ensure compliance with university policies & procedures, and mitigate potential risk management issuesContribute to the overall vision and strategic planning of the department through the development of goals, learning outcomes, and action items for career development programs; review and adjust annually.Manage collection and retention of Job Location and Development data from employers.Oversee budget management for employer focused events and support Career Services Director in general budget management. Act as a signing authority in the absence of the Director.Maintain membership in professional organizations such as NACE. Serve on relevant internal and external committees. Supervison: Recruit, supervise, train, and manage student employees, including fellows and graduate assistants, as needed. Marketing & Communication: Responsible for developing a strategic marketing and communications plan for the department to include overall brand management, communication style, and assessment; review and adjust annually.Develop and apply best practices based marketing strategies for employers to enhance their efforts towards student engagement and hiring.Consistently manage and update the Career Services website to ensure students, employers, and alumni have easy access to all upcoming events and opportunities.Develop and implement email communication campaigns to engage employers and students. Employer Engagement & Workforce Development: Manage and coordinate department employer engagement activities including development and expansion of strategic employer relationships at the local, regional, state, and national level.Generate awareness and increase participation among employers in Handshake as a means to connect with and hire talented UA students and alumni.Collaborate with employer partners, community organizations, and UA statewide initiatives to support workforce development efforts and build new connections and pathways for students entering the workforce. Create and maintain employer outreach target lists and other support materials.Connect with existing UAA and UA Statewide workforce development initiatives to expand student engagement opportunities and awareness.Foster connections between UAA faculty and academic departments and employer partners. Promote the importance of internships and experiential learning opportunities as a high impact practice.Conduct ongoing analysis of the employment market to provide data on employment trends to support career advising efforts, serve as a subject matter expert, and deliver timely career development programming to students, faculty, and community partners. Career Advising, Event Management & Programming: Develop, coordinate and host a variety of career events, including on-campus recruiting, employer site visits, career fairs, alumni networking, and industry events. Facilitate and coordinate career development programming with academic and Student Affairs partners in alignment with department strategic plan and priorities. Occasional evening and weekend event coverage may be required.Conduct individual and group appointments with students and employers and lead workforce development activities (i.e. mock interviews, internship preparation, student employment events and trainings, professional workshops, resume writing/review, career exploration, etc.).Provide advice, guidance and support to student professional clubs on events and career programming.     • Ability to think strategically, while maintaining attention to detail to develop and execute operational plans and manage multiple projects and priorities.
    • Knowledge of corporate hiring practices for business professionals.
    • Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information in an ethical manner.
    • Strong desire to learn new things, embrace the notion of continuous improvement, and contribute to a team.
    • Ability to present complex or technical information in an understandable manner.
    • Must be able to effectively deliver information in a clear, concise and articulate manner to both students and employers.
    • Ability to problem solve, make decisions and demonstrate flexibility in order to provide quality customer service.
    • Ability to remain calm and professional and deliver highly empathetic support when working with clients.
    • Ability to work successfully with college students from diverse backgrounds and perspectives with respect, compassion and heart.

    • Commitment to co-create an inclusive community and actively participate in related professional development, including openness to feedback and ongoing self-evaluation. Typical Experience: Three years of related professional experience in Career Development, Employment Services, Recruitment, Human Resources/Training, Student Services, Advising, or a related function with transferable skills.
      Knowledge of career and student development theory, career information, labor market information, and employment trends.
      Demonstrated experience planning, designing, and executing events, presentations, or large scale projects.
      Experience coordinating marketing or communications efforts on behalf of a program or organization.
      Demonstrated student employee supervision experience.
      Knowledge and experience working with diverse communities and businesses of Alaska.
      Experience with facilitation methods and conducting advising, coaching, training, or onboarding.
      High customer service values and exceptional level of professionalism.
      Proficiency with computers, databases, spreadsheets and common application tools like MS Office Suite: Word, Excel and PowerPoint and Google Apps. Experience with Handshake preferred. Required Education or Training: Bachelor's Degree required.
      2 years of progressively responsible relevant experience or equivalent combination of education and experience. Salary Information: This is a full-time, 12-month, exempt staff position complete with both a competitive salary and full employee benefits package . New hires will be placed on the UA staff salary schedule , Grade 79, based on education and experience.
