Grant Aviation is an Alaskan regional air carrier operating under FAA Part 135, serving rural Alaska since 1971. With bases in Bethel, Emmonak, Dillingham, King Salmon, Cold Bay, Dutch Harbor, Kenai, and Anchorage, Grant Aviation provides scheduled air transport of passengers, cargo, and mail, as well as air ambulance and charter service. Grant employs approximately 300 individuals across Southcentral and Western Alaska. POSITION: Director of Operations Grant Aviation is actively seeking an airline operations expert with demonstrated success nurturing a culture of safety and a detailed knowledge of FAA regulations and Operations Specifications. The Director of Operations reports to the Vice President of Operations and leads within our organization by providing strategic and tactical direction for the company's commercial flight operations and ensuring operational compliance with all Part 135 operating requirements. This is a critical leadership role, responsible for managing all activities of the operations team in alignment with Grant Aviation culture and values. The primary responsibility of the Director of Operation is oversight of flight operations and compliance with all applicable regulations, company values, financial targets, and operational performance. The Director of Operations ensures all company flight operations are conducted in a responsible manner, with the highest regard for safety, compliance, and service standards. The Director of Operations is responsible for and has the authority to direct all operational functions and to ensure the continuous improvement of the flight, cabin safety, and pilot training programs to remain safe, productive, and efficient in support of Grant Aviation's brand and values. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES

  • Oversee, direct, and grow the flight operations team and capabilities
  • Provide leadership and direction using effective communication skills
  • Foster a teamwork environment: encourage team members to work collaboratively, ensure optimal information flow with all assigned operational staff, and assist in team building initiatives.
  • Foster a safety environment through demonstrated commitment to the operational safety of all Company team members and passengers and a culture of reporting errors, hazards, incidents, and accidents without fear of reprisal
  • Maintain operational control of company CFR part 135 flight operations
  • Maintain a working relationship with the FAA Certificate Holding District Office
  • Perform oversight of all company training programs, policies and procedures
  • Develop and maintain the Operational Specifications for Part 135 Operations
  • Responsible to maintain General Operations Manual in alignment with service culture and Company values
  • Coordinate with the Director of Maintenance and Chief pilot regarding policies and procedures
  • Ensure compliance with Federal Aviation Administration approved drug and alcohol program
  • Establish and implement operating practices and procedures in compliance with Federal Aviation Regulations to attain company objectives within the framework of established company policy, which will maintain the highest safety standards and quality of service
  • Recruit, hire, and train company personnel according to company and operational requirements
  • Ensure compliance with all appropriate flight operations part 135 regulations
  • Operate turboprop and piston aircraft as required
  • Develop training requirements and learning program for new pilot hires
  • Work with the team internally and the FAA to establish appropriate flight standards, develop training curricula, etc.
  • Conduct investigations in cooperation with government agencies to determine causes of transportation incidents/accidents and to improve safety procedures
  • Assist in the preparation, oversight, and management of flight operations annual budget SUPPLEMENTAL FUNCTIONS
    • Partner with the Director of Safety to manage safety risk and assure the effectiveness of safety risk controls, to include establishing systematic procedures, practices, and policies for the management of safety risk and advancing the culture of safety within the organization SUPERVISORY FUNCTIONS
      • The Chief Pilot and all operational personnel report to and are accountable to the Director of Operations for all CFR Part 135 operations. GENERAL REQUIREMENTS
        • You bring a few years serving as a leader within a Part 135 organization and you know the FAA regulations and Operations Specifications inside and out.
        • You meet the requirements for Part 119.71 and Part 135 operations, including Instrument and Airline Transport Ratings, at least 3 years PIC experience, and a solid understanding of SOPs and industry best practices.
        • You own your scope of work, support and develop others to effectively own theirs, and hold yourself and others accountable.
        • You demonstrate inventive problem-solving skills and lead by example to manage and motivate your team to do their best work.
        • You're a great verbal and written communicator and bring strong project and team management skills.
        • You demonstrate adaptability, flexibility, and resourcefulness in your work and nurture these abilities in others.
        • You can successfully complete fingerprinting and criminal history background check to obtain an airport SIDA badge.
