Job Description:

The Payroll Manager is responsible for all payroll functions for a multi-level organization in a multitude of states.--The Payroll Manager ensures that all payroll transactions get processed in a timely manner, ensures the department workflow is consistent and appropriately distributed, continuously evaluates controls and processes for improvements, and assists Payroll Technicians in resolving issues that arise.--ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Perform duties associated with the overall management and administration of the payroll department.
  • Supervise, mentor, and train the payroll department's personnel and oversee workflow to ensure high productivity and successful processing of all payroll transactions.
  • Implement, maintain, and review Deltek payroll system to ensure timely and accurate processing of payroll transactions including salaries, benefits, garnishments, taxes, and other deductions.
  • Interpret payroll policies, government regulations, and pertinent provisions of the collective bargaining agreements and wage determinations as they relate to the payroll function for employees, staff, and management.
  • Establish, implement, and continuously improve payroll policies, processes, and forms.
  • Provide documents and reconciliations to support internal and external audits.
  • Act as a liaison between Operations, Human Resources, and other departments by addressing payroll related issues.
  • Analyze payroll transactions and/or information and troubleshoot irregularities in payroll processing.--
  • Comply with all local, state, and federal payroll laws and regulations.
  • Set up all calculations and maintain the Deltek payroll system to ensure all information for payroll is correct.
  • Prepare annual W-2's.
  • Perform other duties as assigned. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIESThis job will supervise the Alaska based payroll department.KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES
    • Knowledge of principles, practices, regulations, and procedures as they relate to payroll, payroll taxes, and payroll benefits
    • Knowledge of accounting principles, practices, and methods as they apply to financial reporting
    • Knowledge of basic accounting concepts such as debits/credits and account types
    • Skill in preparing, interpreting, and using financial reports generated from accounting records and other source data
    • Skill in professional written and verbal communication
    • Skill in providing strong leadership, mentorship, and training to motivate staff and encourage professional development
    • Ability to apply analytical skills to solve problems and improve processes
    • Ability to produce high quality work within tight deadlines while managing multiple projects
    • Ability to work with highly confidential and sensitive information
    • Ability to participate in and facilitate group meetings
    • Ability to work in a Native Corporation multi-business environment. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
      • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in a discipline of Accounting, Finance, or Business.
      • Six years of related work experience in which 3 years include hands on supervision of staff or,
      • Ten years progressive work experience of which three years include hands on supervision of staff will be considered in lieu of bachelor's degree
      • Certified Payroll Professional (CPP)
      • Demonstrated payroll management experience
      • Demonstrated knowledge of basic accounting concepts
      • Experience using Deltek system preferred
