Overview
Project Engineer Intern
Job Summary:
Project Engineer Intern will be responsible for assisting the
Project Engineer and/or Project Manager with the overall direction,
coordination, implementation, execution, control, and completion of
specific projects ensuring consistency with company strategy,
commitments, and goals.
Essential Functions:
Read and accurately interpret project plans and specifications for
the proper execution of work as defined in project documents.
Assist the Project Engineer with the completion of construction
documents including RFI's, Submittals, Purchase Orders, Serial
Letters, etc.
Track project reports including daily reports, production reports,
labor reports, submittals, equipment utilization, schedules,
projections, and activity progress, budget versus actual
reports.
Perform Take-Off's whether for estimating or during project
execution by calculating dimensions, square footage, or calculating
material quantities.
Assist Surveyor with lay out, reference points, grades and
elevations.
Analyze and update project budgets, margin projections, and budget
vs actual reports.
Assist with project quality control, including the testing of soils
for adequacy and conformance, as well as materials meeting the
project specifications.
Assist Project Engineer with SWPPP Program.
Create, Plan, and update work plans for various activities.
Track project deliverables using appropriate tools, including heavy
job, excel, etc.
Provide direction and support to project team.
Monitor and report on progress of project to appropriate
parties.
Present reports defining project progress, problems, and
solutions.
Implement and manage project changes and interventions to achieve
project outputs.
Project evaluations and assessment of results.
Consolidate and analyze historical data and assist with estimating
on future projects.
Inspect or review projects to monitor compliance with environmental
and safety codes, or other regulations.
Responsibilities
Knowledge and Critical Skills/Expertise:
The applicant must be an excited, energetic, professional with a
desire to produce quality product while strengthening Owner,
Engineer, Subcontractor, and Supplier relationships.
Excellent planning and organizing skills.
Assist with executing the project according to the project plans
and specifications.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Ensure that project deliverables are on time, within budget and at
the required level of quality.
Willingness to learn new skills such as CPM Scheduling, Time
Management, Quality Control, Cost Control, and Submittal review,
Purchase Orders, Change Orders, and Subcontracts.
Computer literacy is critical including understanding of Excel,
Word, Power Point, MS Projects or similar scheduling programs with
the ability to learn new programs.
Must be able to read and interpret engineering, architectural,
other constructions drawings, and specifications.
Implementation of corporate safety program and applicable safety
regulations.
Implement and complete quality and inspections procedures.
Excellent mathematical skills are required with the ability to
perform quantity and material takeoffs from construction
documents.
Ability to be flexible and work effectively in a fast-paced
environment.
Demonstrate ethical conduct, professional presentation and cultural
awareness.
Qualifications
Required Experience:
One year of experience in heavy civil or vertical construction or
two or more years of training in engineering related field such as
civil engineering or construction management.
Familiarity with job cost tracking.
Experience with Microsoft word, excel, and power point.
Knowledge of construction materials and practices.
Familiarity of P6 or Microsoft Projects Scheduling Software
Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently
required to read text on a computer screen and in hard copy, stand
or sit, talk, and hear.
The employee is frequently required to enter information into
computers via a keyboard or other peripheral device.
Exposure to moderate levels of noise in a well-lit, well-ventilated
and moderately paced environment.
Continuously required to sit, hear and/or respond to verbal/audio
cues, perform repetitive motions of hands and wrists, and read
computer screen.
Continuously required to stand or walk.
Occasionally required to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch,
crawl, twist, bend, or reach with hands and arms.
Occasionally required to push, pull and/or carry objects up to 50
pounds.
Environmental Conditions:
The work environment is that of a typical project site office.
Most often the location will be on a construction site.
Often jobsites are located in rural areas.
