Location GSI Anchorage, AK Description Job Summary: The Automation Engineer will provide automation field services to GSI customers. The Automation Engineer will have a diverse background in automation, instrumentation and control with the ability to work under minimal supervision to design, develop and travel to destinations in Alaska to commission new control systems and diagnose and repair issue with existing systems. Minimum of 3 years' experience in the Essential Functions include, but are not limited to: (Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of this position.) * Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) software configuration, validation, troubleshooting and implementation. * Human Machine Interface (HMI) software configuration, validation, troubleshooting and implementation. * Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) software programming. * Historian software configuration, troubleshooting and implementation. * Control system commissioning and diagnostics. * Interpret engineering documentation to develop control narratives, scopes of work and project documentation. * Instrumentation & control element commissioning and troubleshooting. * Network troubleshooting and configuration. * PC Hardware, Virtualization and Operating Systems. * Basic project management. * Maintain company standards for quality. * Exercise safe electrical and work habits. * Other duties as assigned. Position Requirements Knowledge, Skills & Ability: (Required unless specifically stated 'preferred') * Accredited Bachelor s Degree in a Computer or Engineering related technical field. * Knowledge of process control systems including but not limited to: water and wastewater, oil and gas, and energy systems. * PLC, DCS, SCADA and Historian programming experience. * Proficiency with Rockwell Automation programming software and Allen Bradley hardware is preferred. * Proficiency with GE programming software and GE hardware is preferred. * Ability to read and understand Electrical Diagrams and P & IDs (Piping and Instrument Diagrams) * Strong computer skills with a working knowledge of SQL and Microsoft Office Suite. * Strong oral and written communications skills and the ability to communicate effectively with all levels of the organization. * Excellent interpersonal skills; must be able to work independently and interact effectively with all levels of the organization. * Experience with AutoCAD is preferred. * Dependable attendance. * Ability to operate computer keyboard and standard office equipment. * Ability to sit and review information on a computer screen for long periods of time (up to 12 hours a day with lunch and breaks). * Must be able to withstand repetitive motion up to 12 hours a day with lunch and breaks. * Subject to DOT Drug and Alcohol Testing. * Must maintain a valid US Driver s License. * Ability to obtain a TWIC card and pass a federal background check for work in marine, air, or other transportation terminals. * Ability to complete work at industrial worksites including rough and/or icy terrain. * Ability to travel within Alaska to customer sites for work including remote locations. Office Location and Travel: This position is located in Anchorage, AK. Up to 50% travel may be required, sometimes to remote destinations. Working Environment & Conditions This position is primarily indoors, consistent with a standard office position and has a noise level of mostly low to moderate. Travel for this position may include remote destinations and/or primitive living conditions. Incumbent may be briefly exposed to ambient temperature ranges of negative (-)60F to positive (+)110F due to extremes of Alaska Environmental conditions. Typical job duties may require the incumbent to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; talk and hear. The workload may require the incumbent to sit for extended periods of time. The incumbent may occasionally be asked to lift and/or move up to 25 lbs. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Travel Requirements Up to 50% travel may be required, sometimes to remote destinations.
