Job Description:
The UAA Department of Journalism and Public Communications has
an immediate need for an adjunct instructor to deliver a course in
Web Design asynchronously online. Web Design is an upper-division
course in the Bachelor of Arts in Journalism and Public
Communications and a course within the Occupational Endorsement
Certificate in Graphic Design. Interested candidates in other
disciplines such as, but not limited to, photojournalism or
news/documentary video courses, are welcome to apply as needs vary
from semester to semester. The UAA Department of Journalism and
Public Communications in the College of Arts & Sciences (CAS) is
seeking applicants who are interested in teaching credit courses as
Adjunct Faculty. Dedicated faculty, challenging curricula,
multifaceted students are the aspects of our department, which
empowers and prepares students for the professional careers and
graduate studies. Our mission is to help students explore the roles
of free expression and communication in a global society. Qualified
applicants for this position will be placed into a hiring pool from
which instructors will be hired as needed. Acceptance into the
hiring pool does not constitute an offer of an appointment, nor
does having worked one semester guarantee that a position will be
available the following semester; hiring decisions are made on a
semester-by-semester basis according to the needs of that
semester's schedule. Successful candidates will have relevant
career experience, an organized approach to teaching that
incorporates the feedback of full-time faculty, students and
College of Arts and Sciences administrators. They will understand
and be able to communicate current best practices in the field.
Minimum Qualifications: Successful candidates will have relevant
career experience and a master's degree in journalism,
communications or related field. Successful applicants must provide
official transcripts documenting academic credentials required for
the position as a condition of employment. Experience teaching
college-level courses in Journalism and Public Communications or
closely related field is preferred. Exceptions may be made for
individuals whose experience and accomplishments compensate for the
lack of the required education. Such exceptions are reviewed and
approved by the College of Arts and Sciences Dean. Position
Details: This position is located on the University of Alaska
Anchorage campus in Anchorage, AK. This is a part-time, adjunct
represented temporary position. New hires will be place on the
adjunct salary schedule as outlined in the UNAD CBA, based on
education and experience. This is a pooled position, applications
